I have worked with computers for the last seventeen years as a consultant, network administrator, teacher, web developer and tech journalist. I believe that computer solutions need not be expensive or complicated, that technology should always work for you and not against you. I can explain anything in exacting technical detail, creative metaphor, or simply not at all. I am fluent with most Windows and Macintosh systems, but if something is beyond my abilities I will gladly recommend another expert rather than waste time and money learning on the job.

Customization and Training. Make your computer do what you want. I can teach you how to get the most out of your operating system, word processing program, digital camera, email and the internet. No question is too trivial. I am a master at explaining technology in plain English and have an acute sense of information overload. $50 an hour.

Use the BCC field. When you send an email to a large group of people, use the blind copy (bcc) field to mask recipients' addresses. Some people object to having their email addresses shared in visible cc's. Furthermore, using the bcc field also staves off unfortunate Reply To All incidents as recipients can only reply directly to the sender. Learn more.
Configuration and Installation. You don't want to call tech support, you just want the thing to work. Many computer problems have painless solutions: updating software, installing drivers, resetting a few of those mysterious preferences. I can evaluate what's going wrong and fix it. If someone has to bang their head against the wall, why not let it be me? $100 for the first two hours, $75 for each additional hour.
